As an actress, Lia has appeared in several Off-Broadway shows, numerous short films, television, and independent features. She is a member of all performer unions and several of her performances have garnered awards.
Lia Johnson produced the Tribeca short film "Spanish Boots," as well as the award-winning feature film “I’m Through With White Girls.” "I'm Through With White Girls" won 9 international Audience Awards and screened at over 40 film festivals around the world. Lia attended the MFA directing program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Asia and her short film and directorial debut "Tennis For Two" won the Most Original Film Award at the International Tres Court Film Festival in Singapore in May 2010.
Lia has written several short and feature length films and was a finalist for the Sundance Film Festival Writer’s Workshop. Alongside her freelance work in short-format and web-based media, Lia is currently developing her second feature-length project. It is her goal to produce stories that convey the voices of her community.
